Dubbo Duathlon Series – Race 3 Recap (Finale & Handicap Race)

Sunday 28 September 2025 | Sunny morning, perfect conditions for a series decider

The 2025/26 Dubbo Duathlon Series wrapped up with a true test of pacing and patience — our handicap finale. With staggered starts and adjusted handicaps, the field reshuffled in fascinating ways, keeping everyone guessing right up to the finish line.

Weather Radar: A cool start gave way to a much warmer morning than expected. The quick rise in temperature made pacing tricky and hydration essential - reminding us the winter series has ended.

🥇 Long Course (2km Run | 10km Bike | 2km Run)
The handicap format flipped the script, and it was all about timing your effort:

  • Daniel Stewart took line honours in 47:14 (net 37:14), converting his 10-minute handicap into victory.

  • Katie and Terry Lyons shared second place, a fitting family effort.

  • That left Molly Jones (15) to claim the final third place on the podium, showing composure well beyond her years.

When handicaps were stripped back, the speedsters still made their mark:

  • Simon Heppell recorded the outright fastest net time of the day — and the series — with a blistering 31:43.

  • Daniel Roberts and Tim Howlett both clocked 33:32, sharing second-fastest net time.

  • Craig Shannon (34:13), Julia Mannix (34:52), and Michael Howlett (35:03) all featured in a tight chase pack2025 duathlon Race 3 results v2.

🚴 Short Course (1km | 6km | 1km)
The Simmons family kept the short race in-house:

  • Harvey (10) was first home in 49:43 off handicap, steady as ever.

  • Jessica (42) followed close behind in 49:54, taking first female and making it a Simmons 1–22025 duathlon Race 3 results v2.

👟 Junior Course (1km | 3km | 1km)
The juniors thrived in the handicap finale:

  • Harry Orford (6) came through first in 20:55, showing maturity in pacing.

  • Grace Mannix (7) grabbed second and was first girl in 22:33.

  • Toby Orford (9) rounded out the podium, while newcomer Archie Foster added fresh legs to the mix2025 duathlon Race 3 results v2.

🧒 Mini U/7 Course (300m | 1km | 300m)
The minis finished the series in style:

  • Travis Warren (6) edged rival Douglas Mannix (5) once again, just 16 seconds apart.

  • Oliver Orford and Briar Graham were right in the hunt, while Rosie Stewart (3) stole hearts with one of the fastest first runs in the group.

🙌 Thanks to the Crew
Every race needs marshals, timers, setup teams, snack-bakers, and cheer squads. You’ve shown up for three cold mornings in a row and turned them into proper community events — thank you.

🔚 Series Wrap
That’s a wrap on the 2025/26 Winter Duathlon Series. We’ve seen back-to-back wins, family rivalries, juniors stepping up, Bathurst friends making the trip, and a finale that levelled the playing field with handicaps. Whether you raced once, twice, or all three times, you’ve been part of building this little Dubbo tradition.
