Dubbo Duathlon Series – Race 2 Recap

Sunday 24 August 2025 | Crisp start, clear skies, and plenty of head-to-head racing

The second round of the series delivered another sharp morning, but the sun made it perfect once the gun went. Thanks to everyone who turned up — from front-pack chasers to kids on tiny bikes, volunteers on corners, and parents juggling breakfast runs with race day.

Weather Radar: Cold start, blue skies, light wind — the kind of winter conditions you quietly hope for.

🥇 Long Course (2km Run | 10km Bike | 2km Run)
The sprint distance had no shortage of drama, with only seconds separating the leaders.

Top 3 Overall:

  • Daniel Roberts – 33:29 (fastest opening run: 07:32)

  • Craig Shannon – 33:41 (kept the pressure on, second fastest final run of the day: 07:55)

  • Tim Howlett – 33:54 (consistent splits, strong pacing throughout)

Other notable efforts:

  • Julia Mannix – 34:32 — first female home, sitting comfortably inside the overall top five.

  • Levi Simmons (12) — blinding first run of 07:37, showing the adults how it’s done.

  • Mark Windsor (66) — fastest bike split of the day in 16:19, proving experience counts.

  • Jude Simmons (14) — quickest final run across the whole field in 07:51.

🚴 Short Course (1km | 6km | 1km)
Another close contest played out here.

  • Harvey Simmons (10) — 24:32, leading from the gun with fastest opening and closing runs.

  • James Hunt — 24:55, hot on his heels with the day’s fastest bike leg (14:50).

  • Jessica Simmons — 29:46, first female, smooth across all three legs.

👟 Junior Course (1km | 3km | 1km)
The junior field again brought great energy.

Top finishers:

  • Harry Orford (6) — 20:38, with a quick first run.

  • Thomas Cullenward (9) — 20:46, just eight seconds behind, and fastest final kilometre.

  • Grace Mannix (7) — 21:34, first girl, balanced performance on every leg.

Shoutouts to:

  • Toby Orford (8) — fastest bike split in 09:59.

  • Eleanor Searle and Nash Fuller — strong pacing to hold form over the full course.

🧒 Mini U/7 Course (300m | 1km | 300m)
Always the loudest cheers of the day — the mini race didn’t disappoint.

  • Travis Warren (5) — 06:49, smooth ride and strong start-to-finish focus.

  • Douglas Mannix (5) — 06:53, only four seconds back with the fastest final run.

  • Oliver Orford (5) — 07:26, right in the mix and looking confident.

Special mentions:

  • Briar Graham and Hugh Searle — sharp efforts across all three legs.

  • Evelyn Howlett, Ellie Carlow, Sophie Hunt — kept pace and pushed through to the finish.

  • Alice Mannix (3), Arthur Hunt (3), and Lewis Howlett (2) — our youngest competitors, showing grit on what feels like a marathon when you’re pint-sized.

  • It was great to see two Bathurst Tri Club members make the trip over to Dubbo for Race 2. Mark Windsor showed his experience with the fastest bike leg of the day and a top-four finish overall. Gary Hamer backed it up with a strong effort across the long course, adding to the depth of the field. Their presence added a nice interclub flavour to the morning — we look forward to returning the support when it’s Bathurst’s turn to host.

🙌 Thank You Crew
From timers and marshals to parents herding minis into transition, we couldn’t run without you. Thanks for braving the cold, keeping the course safe, and making the morning flow.
