Dubbo Duathlon Series – Race 1 Recap

Sunday 3 August 2025 | Cool start, clear skies, strong efforts all round

What a way to kick off the 2025/26 series. The breeze was light and the course had just enough bite to keep everyone honest. Thanks to everyone who came out - whether to race, cheer, marshal, or juggle small humans at the finish line.

Weather Radar: Crisp winter morning, light breeze, clear skies - ideal racing conditions once the sun came up.

🥇 Long Course (2km Run | 10km Bike | 2km Run)

The first race of the season saw some tightly packed racing in the long course, with impressive pacing and a few tactical rides shaking up the field.

Top 3 Overall:

  1. Daniel Roberts – 34:04 (blistering bike leg: 16:35)

  2. Tim Howlett – 34:43 (fastest opening run: 08:20)

  3. Julia Mannix – 35:17 (first female, strong finish across all legs)

Other notable efforts:

  • Joshua Brownlow clocked the fastest final run of the day (08:22) and held his ground across a competitive field.

  • Michael Howlett, Ben Orford, and Tom Williamson all crossed in close succession, rounding out a tight mid-pack.

🚴 Short Course (1km | 6km | 1km)

Only one name in the results, but a clear standout:

  • James Hunt – 27:40
Led the field from the first step and didn’t let up. Clean transitions, calm pacing, and solid splits across all legs.

👟 Junior Course (1km | 3km | 1km)

The juniors came to race — and their times show it. This course continues to be one of the best parts of race day.

Top Finishers:

  • Lily Orford (11) – 20:34 — smooth bike, consistent runs

  • Harry Orford (6) – 21:44 — fastest final 1km of the group

  • Grace Mannix (7) – 23:51 — paced with control and held form to the finish

Shoutouts to:

  • Thomas Cullenward (9) – fastest first run (04:38)

  • Toby Orford (8) and Nash Fuller (9) — kept strong across all legs

🧒 Mini U/7 Course (300m | 1km | 300m)

This race is always a crowd favourite — and today didn’t disappoint.

  • Travis Warren (6) – 06:51 — smooth ride and consistent from start to finish

  • Douglas Mannix (5) – 07:10 — right behind, with a well-paced ride and run

  • Briar Graham (6), Oliver Orford (5), and Hugh Searle (5) all showed focus and form across the full mini course

Special mention to:

  • Alice Mannix (3) – the youngest athlete to cross the line today, finishing her final run with a grin and a cheer

  • Lewis Howlett (3) – huge effort on the bike and stuck with it to the end

  • And to Lucy Hunt (4), who showed excellent pacing and focus on a course that feels long when you’re little

🙌 Thank You Crew

Big appreciation to the volunteers, timers, marshals, and setup squad — especially those who were out there early when it was still cold. Whether you were cheering people on, handing out the snacks, or kept the mini course moving, your presence made the race work.

🔜 What’s Next?

We’re back for Race 2 on Sunday 24 August.

Entries now open — all distances, all abilities, all welcome. Bring your mates, your kids, or just your legs. More info via the Dubbo Tri Club website.
